Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation encourages
participation of people with special needs in regular and
special recreation and fitness programs. There are presently
80 special programs running in the various community centres
throughout Vancouver including Wheelercize, Adapted Fitness,
Adapted Swim and summer day camps for children. Low income
Vancouver residents may be eligible for reduced fees for
basic recreation services. Attendants are admitted at no
charge for any patron needing additional support. The goal of
this program is to help people with special needs take full
advantage of all recreation opportunities. Check your
telephone directory blue pages under Municipal Government,
Parks and Recreation to see if similar programs exist in your
area.
