Training and Support Programs
Self-Help Skills provide training in personal care, social integration and job readiness. Clients may receive one-on-one or group assistance, and are encouraged to progress towards more demanding or challenging activities as they are able. The Supported Work Program provides a combination of support, training, and on-the-job experience to help clients integrate into the work force. Participants must be able to function initially with minimal support and be able to work independently within 36 months. Participants may be eligible for a transportation allowance. For information about these programs, look in your telephone directory blue pages under Government of BC, Children and Families, Ministry for, Services to People with Mental Handicaps, for an office near you.

This program provides people who receive Disability Benefits with work in their community. Job experience helps them upgrade their skills and gain valuable social contacts. Monthly allowances are available to cover program-related expenses. If you are on Disability Benefits, contact your Financial Assistance Worker at your Ministry of Human Resources Office for more information.

Community Volunteer Program
This program helps recipients of BC Benefits, Income Assistance, or Disability Benefits to achieve a greater degree of social integration and autonomy by providing them with opportunities to participate in the activities of nonprofit organizations in their communities. If you are receiving BC Benefits, contact your Financial Assistance Worker at your Ministry of Human Resources Office for more information.
