Disability Pension
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is a government income insurance plan which is funded by the compulsory contributions to the federal government made on work-related earnings. In order to be eligible for CPP’s disability benefits you must have contributed to the CPP for 2 of the last 3 years or 5 of the last 10 years, and you must be under 65 years of age. To be eligible, your disability must be “severe and prolonged”and prevent you from regularly pursuing gainful employment. If you were delayed in applying, you may still be eligible if you were eligible at the time you became disabled. If you have any questions regarding eligibility please call the number below. Application forms are available through a Human Resources Development office. You will need documents proving your age and confirming your disability when submitting the forms. A guide book as to how to fill out the paperwork is also provided. Check your telephone directory blue pages under Government of Canada, Human Resources Development for an office in your area.
