JAMES COMMUNITY SERVICE SOCIETY 329 Powell St. Vancouver, BC V6A 1G5 St. James provides care and support for those who face homelessness, poverty and isolation, mental illness and addictions, as well as chronic and terminal illness. Our Mission is to provide innovative housing, life skills, and care programs for: women and children at risk; homeless at risk; the terminally ill; the mentally ill; persons dealing with addictions, and those requiring financial guardianship services.
Financial services:
Our adult Guardianship Program provides support to vulnerable, low income seniors who are no longer are able to care for their own financial management needs due to physical and/or mental constraints.Hospice services:
May's Place and Cottage Hospice provide 16 out of the city's 26 hospice beds, where we offer care and comfort for terminally ill adults from across Vancouver in a supportive and comfortable home-like environment.Housing services:
Mental health housing:
We provide 86 supporting housing apartments and residential rooms for adults with severe and persistent mental illness.Seniors housing:
We provide 66 rooms within a supporting housing residence for vulnerable, older residents in the Downtown Eastside who are unable to live independently.Low income housing:
We provide 31 apartments for low income housing for low income individuals, at risk of becoming homeless.Women and children services:
Powell Place shelter offers 52 beds of temporary emergency shelter and support to women in the Downtown Eastside.St. Elizabeth Home provides temporary emergency shelter to 32 women and children, as well as 10 units of transitional housing for women and children for up to 2 years.
