PACIFIC ASSISTANCE DOG SOCIETY (PADS) 9048 Stormont Ave. Burnaby, BC V3N 4G6 The Pacific Assistance Dog Society is a non-profit organization which trains dogs to assist people with disabilities other than blindness. Service dogs assist physically disabled persons, including those confined to wheelchairs, to carry out daily activities such as retrieving dropped items, carrying objects, turning lights on and off, pushing elevator buttons, helping to transfer, and pulling wheelchairs over ramps and inclines.
Signal dogs alert people to the doorbell, telephone, a baby crying or any other sound that the dogs have been trained to respond to. Social dogs provide the loving non-judgmental interaction known as pet-facilitated therapy for people with developmental disabilities. The goal of the Society is to enable people to lead more independent lives.
