The Lunch Program is designed for housebound seniors. In North Burnaby, the program takes place every Thursday at Confederation Centre. In South Burnaby, it takes place every first, second, and third Monday at Edmonds Community Centre. Volunteers pick up the seniors at their homes and take them to the centres for lunch. At the centre, volunteer hostesses greet the centres and socialize with them during the lunch hour. After lunch, the volunteer drivers return to the centre to take the seniors home.Volunteer Visitors Program:
The Volunteer Visitor program provides a volunteer visitor to a lonely housebound person.Shop-By-Phone Service:
This service is designed to meet the grocery needs of housebound elderly persons and/or people with disabilities. Volunteers fill grocery orders once a week for people registered with this service and the grocery store delivers the order to the clients door. Available for Burnaby residents only.Shopping Buddies:
The Shopping Buddies program is designed to assist elderly persons and/or persons with disabilities with their personal shopping. Clients are free to access this service once a week, once a month or once in a while (space available). A transportation service (handyDART) will pick up the client at their home and transport them to a local shopping mall, where they are met by a volunteer who will accompany them for two and a half hours while they shop, bank, enjoy lunch etc. The only fee for this service is the transportation which costs $1.35 each way.
