The strategy has the mandate to heighten awareness of disability issues; coordinate policy and program initiatives across government that affect persons with disabilities.
The staff at the ODI ensure open communications between government, people with disabilities and related agencies; and to facilitate ongoing input to public policy and program priorities.
Coordination efforts are focused on three key areas: education, training and employment; community living supports; and transportation. The Strategy components do not offer direct services or advocate on behalf of individuals.
