ADVOCATE FOR SERVICE QUALITY FOR PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HANDICAPS
Suite 320 - 1818 Cornwall Avenue
Vancouver, BC V6J 1C7

The Advocate’s role is to help people with developmental disabilities get good service from the Ministry of Children and Families and its contractors. Although appointed by the Minister for Children and Families, the Advocate works independently of the ministry to resolve problems requiring an external, objective perspective. People with developmental disabilities can approach the Advocate directly or through their families, friends or supporters. Ministry staff and contractors can also make referrals. The Advocate deals with issues such as eligibility for and appropriateness of services; involvement of clients and families in planning and making decisions; adherence to standards of services; and the manner in which clients and families are treated by ministry staff and service providers.
